Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese traditional medicine tool which has been used for over 2000 years to help management pain and dysfunction. The Chinese philosophy of the intervention, is that through needling in specific sites around the body this helps restore energy flow around the body and restore balance. The western approach within physiotherapy looks purely at the use of pain relief and trigger point release of muscles/fascia with needling. There are some studies which have shown how areas of the brain responsible for the production of pain reliving chemicals is activated when needles are placed into the skin.
Acupuncture is suitable for most people. The process of having acupuncture is safe and easy as the needles are hollowed and very fine, unlike a needle from an injection. The needles we use are sterile and only ever used once, with very minor side effects reported. The needles are left in from 5minutes up to 30minutes depending on the problem and response to needling. Most people report an immediate benefit from acupuncture, but for those who don't if no response is felt after 4 sessions then treatment should cease there.
