Scoliosis Management

Scoliosis describes a curvature of the spine. The treatment your child is offered will be dependant on the severity of the curve. Typically the three treatment approaches offered are: observation, non-operative management (bracing, casting, traction) and surgery. Observation involves regular appointments with a spinal specialist who will undertake investigations such as X-rays to monitor the condition. Non-operative management might include bracing to reduce the progression of the curve developing, casting which provides a more semi-permanent brace or in certain cases traction.  In some instances when the severity of the curve is more severe your surgeon may recommend an operation. This will aim to reduce the further progression of the curve.  If you feel you have a curve in your spine or would like some more information on scoliosis, call or email us today at The Physiotherapy Academy.
