Torticollis

If your child complains of neck pain and is tilting their head to one side then it is possible they have torticollis. This appearance is normally due to muscle spasm of some or one of the neck muscles. It could be due to an uncomfortable position they have slept in/been working in or secondary to having a cold/throat infection where the glands in the neck have been painful and swollen. In theses instances the neck pain and stiffness will improve with time, however if symptoms persist then it is advised that further investigations are required.

To help ease the pain and symptoms, some find the use of heat, stretching exercises and pain relief useful.  Physiotherapy in the form of soft tissue Massage taping techniques and stretching techniques can also be helpful to assist in the resolution of symptoms. Call or email the clinic to seek the experts’ opinion.
