Gym based rehabilitation

The Physiotherapy Academy clinics are ideally located to provide gym based rehabilitation alongside or following your clinic room based treatments. The physiotherapists will actively encourage you to undertake a gym-based program to complement your physiotherapy treatment, encouraging a quicker return to your normal activities and sporting pastimes.

Initially this gym based rehabilitation program will be advised and supervised by the physiotherapist. In time you will be encouraged to complete this on your own with the physiotherapist progressing the exercises. Ultimately the aim is to be able to continue with the program independently or under the supervision of a personal trainer. If you are a keen sports person a gym-based program ensures that you regain full movement, strength, speed, proprioception, co-ordination and endurance before returning to your desired sport.

A common failure of physiotherapy is finishing treatment in the clinic room. When you are returning to sports or physical activities following an injury or some surgery, it is paramount that you are followed right up to returning to that sport. This includes stressing the injured tissues prior to returning to that sport using sport and activity specific drills and exercises. This type of program also helps to prevent re-injury or a further injury due to your body's normal compensations.

All of the physiotherapists at The Physiotherapy Academy have extensive experience and a passion for gym based rehabilitation.
