Mortons Neuroma

What is it?

Morton's neuroma is a condition affecting the nerves between the toes. In Morton's neuroma, fibrous tissue develops around the nerve, which becomes inflamed and squashed. This causes pain on the underside of the foot and under the toes. Morton's neuroma can occur on one foot or both feet. It most commonly affects the nerve between the third and fourth toes, but sometimes other toes are affected. You may initially experience a tingling sensation in the space between, which worsens over time. This leads to shooting or burning pain on the ball of your foot or at the base of your toes which is often worse when walking or standing.

What we do?

We will undertake a detailed assessment of your feet and lower limbs to ensure we have an accurate diagnosis.  This will include questions about where your pain is, when it comes on and how severe the pain is. We will then look at your foot posture and how you walk. This will help us determine why you are getting your pain.

What are the benefits?

Your physiotherapist will aim to help reduce the pain and symptoms you are feeling from your problem. We will look to improve tight muscles, address joints that need to be mobilised as well as other areas such as foot posture. If appropriate we may also look at other areas such as your footwear.
